CAIRO, July 23 (Xinhua) - The Dubai-based Al Arabiya TV on Wednesday
broadcast an audio tape of alleged ousted former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein,
a day after Saddam's two sons were reportedly killed in a gunbattle with United
States troops in northern Iraq.
The tape purpo
rtedly carrying the voice of Saddam said "the United States
would not achieve victory in Iraq".
"The war (against the U.S.-led coalition) is not over. The war is not
finished," he warned. Saddam also urged the Iraqi forces to continue fighting
U.S. troops and increasing attacks.
The tape was dated July 20, two days before his two sons, Uday and Qusay
were killed on Tuesday in a six-hour fierce gunbattle with U.S. forces in Mosul.
U.S. officials have likened the killing or capture of the trinity of Saddam
and his sons as a heavy blow to the insurgency campaign, tantamount to "cutting
the head off a snake".
However, the whereabouts of Saddam Hussein, who disappeared on April 9
following the fall of his regime, remains a mystery despite a massive manhunt.
The U.S. bounty for information or tip-offs leading to the killing or
capture of Saddam stands at 25 million dollars.
On Wednesday, two U.S. soldiers were killed in two separate incidents in
Iraq, bringing the number of U.S. soldiers killed in guerrilla-style attacks to
over 40 since U.S. President George W. Bush declared an end of the Iraq war on
May 1.
U.S. top civil administrator in Iraq, Paul Bremer, on Tuesday hailed the
killing of Saddam's sons Uday and Qusay, but warned against more revenge attacks
in the coming few days by Saddam's loyalists. End
