BAGHDAD, July 21 (Xinhua) -- One United States soldier and an Iraqi
translator were killed on Monday in an attack in northern Baghdad, the U.S.
military here said.
The attack occurred at around 10:30 am (0630 GMT) in the Al-Sulaykh area of
northern Baghdad, a spokesman of the
U.S. military said, adding the dead soldier
is from the 1st Armored Division.
The attack was carried out with an improvised explosive device together
with small arms fire.
The military had no further information on the soldier's death, the
spokesman added.
The Monday death brought to 152 the number of U.S. troops killed in action
since March 20, the start of U.S.-led war on Iraq.
On Sunday, two U.S. soldiers and an Iraqi employee of a UN-affiliated
relief agency were also killed near Tal Afar, a town west of the northern city
of Mosul. The soldiers died in an ambush by attackers using rocket-propelled
grenades and small-arms. End
