U.S. Soldier Killed in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, July 21 (Xinhua) -- One United States soldier and an Iraqi translator were killed on Monday in an attack in northern Baghdad, the U.S. military here said.

The attack occurred at around 10:30 am (0630 GMT) in the Al-Sulaykh area of northern Baghdad, a spokesman of the
U.S. military said, adding the dead soldier is from the 1st Armored Division.

The attack was carried out with an improvised explosive device together with small arms fire.

The military had no further information on the soldier's death, the spokesman added.

The Monday death brought to 152 the number of U.S. troops killed in action since March 20, the start of U.S.-led war on Iraq.

On Sunday, two U.S. soldiers and an Iraqi employee of a UN-affiliated relief agency were also killed near Tal Afar, a town west of the northern city of Mosul. The soldiers died in an ambush by attackers using rocket-propelled grenades and small-arms. End
