BRUSSELS, July 21 (Xinhua) -- The foreign ministers of the European Union
(EU) member states, who met on Monday, reiterated the EU's stance of
participating in the reconstruction work of post-war Iraq within the framework
of the United Nations resolutions.

d the setting up of the Iraqi Governing Council as an
"important first step" toward the formation of an internationally recognized
representative government established by the people of Iraq.
A statement issued by the meeting said that the EU expressed confidence
that the United Nations will continue to make an important contribution to
post-conflict nation building in Iraq.
Meanwhile, the EU foreign ministers also expressed appreciation for the
results of the Donors' Consultative Meeting hosted by the United Nations
Development Program on June 24, adding that it is important that the EU will
play an important role in all multilateral efforts with a view to the Donors'
Conference scheduled for this autumn. End
