BERLIN, July 16 (Xinhua) -- German police on Wednesday arrested a
31-year-old ex-United States Marine who ran off with a 12-year-old English
schoolgirl he met over the Internet.
The arrest ended a four-day international manhunt involving detectives from
Ireland, Germany, Bri
tain, France and the United States.
Toby Studabaker, who is on charges of abduction, was alone when police held
him in the western city of Frankfurt.
Studabaker's arrest came after police sources revealed that child
pornography had been downloaded from the Internet on to a computer used by the
former soldier.
Shortly after the announcement of his arrest, investigators said Shevaun
Pennington, whom he had met in an Internet chat room was safe in Great Britain.
Shevaun and Studabaker had flown from Manchester to Paris on Saturday after
building up a year-long relationship over the Internet, according to British
police.
The pair had been underway in Europe for four days after Studabaker, who
was honorably discharged from the marines, flew to Manchester to pick her up.
Police also said they had evidence that Studabaker was aware of Shevaun's
real age, despite his claims in calls to his family in the United States that he
had thought she was 19. End
