BAGHDAD, July 7 (Xinhua) - The United States-led coalition administration
will introduce new banknotes in Iraq to replace those bearing the image of
Saddam Hussein, top U.S. civilian administrator Paul Bremer said on Monday.
The new Iraqi dinar banknotes will be available to th
e Iraqi people on
October 15, Bremer said, adding that the new unit would be exchanged at parity
with the "Saddam dinars."
"After October 15 you will have three months to swap your existing notes
for the new ones," the top U.S. official in Iraq said.
Britain's De La Rue Plc, the world's biggest commercial printer of
banknotes, was set to win the main contract for the new currency and would start
printing dinars soon. End
